WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

In these hands-on workshops, you will learn many easy and incredible
techniques
to make your own truly unique and stunning fiber art pieces.

LAYERED FABRIC ASSEMBLAGE

Learn to create a truly unique and stunning art piece, with multiple layers and textures of fabric. Using simple materials, students will learn many techniques for creating a base, covered with beautiful overlays of fabric, surrounded by shapes that extend outward, giving the piece added shape, dimension and excitement. The final piece will hang on the wall. No sewing involved, no art experience necessary, just enthusiasm, creativity, and a sense of adventure! Vicki will offer many demonstrations, answer questions, and give many technical and aesthetic tips along the way. Students will also gain inspiration and encouragement from the creative work of their fellow students.

MIXED MEDIA WEAVING ON A SIMPLE LOOM

Learn many techniques to create exciting and unique weavings, made on a simple frame loom. You’ll use yarn, string, fabric, jewelry parts and all sorts of fun embellishments to create a textured and lively piece. You’ll also learn to make tassels, pompoms, and fringes to add on to the body and edges of your weaving. No weaving or art experience is necessary to take this workshop, or to make fabulous pieces of art. Perfect for beginning through advanced artists.

WILDLY TEXTURAL WEAVING

We’ll use plastic fencing material as the foundation for our super textural weaving. The fencing offers many options for creating fabulous effects, both with the bottom fringe and with the whole body of the piece, allowing for interesting and dynamic outcomes. We’ll use knotting, wrapping, tying, sewing, coiling and twisting of our materials to build your exciting and stunning piece to hang on the wall. This is a great project for incorporating all kinds of pieces and parts you may already have on hand, such as fabric scraps, jewelry parts, shells, beads, unfinished project parts, yarn, and other embellishments. No weaving experience is necessary, and all levels are most welcome.

DIMENSIONAL FABRIC FUSION

In this workshop, you’ll begin with creating a base with assorted fabrics. You’ll then learn how to create a variety of fun, dimensional fiber parts and shapes, prior to adding them onto the main piece, using techniques such as coiling, wrapping, sewing, stuffing, twisting, knotting and embellishing. Then, we’ll add these shapes to the foundation, along with more dimensional layers of fibers, and also include other objects, within, around and hanging from the piece. These techniques allow for a dynamic and gorgeous piece to be created. This is a great project for incorporating all kinds of pieces and parts you may already have on hand, such as fabric scraps, jewelry parts, shells, beads, buttons, yarn, string, trim, lace, unfinished project parts and other embellishments. The final piece will be your own unique and stunning creation to hang on the wall.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE FRAME

In this workshop, we’ll begin with wrapping a wooden frame with assorted fabrics. Then, we’ll add many layers of fibers and other objects, within, around and hanging from the frame. This is a great project for incorporating all kinds of pieces and parts you may already have on hand, such as fabric scraps, jewelry parts, shells, beads, unfinished project parts and other embellishments. You’ll learn how to create a variety of fun fiber parts, prior to adding them onto the main piece, using techniques such as coiling, wrapping, sewing, stuffing, twisting and knotting. These techniques allow for a layered, dimensional look that adds intrigue and beauty to your piece.
